Vienna, Wien, your guide to Vienna, Austria
Maria Theresien Platz |
The monument of Maria Theresia was completed by Kaspar Zumbusch and Karl Hasenauer in the year 1887. Around her there are the four military generals Daun, Laudon, Traun and Khevenhueller.
Maria Theresia (born 1717, died 1780) was married in 1736 to Herzog Franz Stephan of Lothringen. Fought against Friedrich the great from Preussen. Had 16 children, nine died early. (She asked the Doctor what she should do not to become pregnant anymore. The Doctor's advice: Take an apple. She asked: Before or after? Answer: 'Instead, your Majesty'). After her husbands death her son Joseph became co-monarch.
When looking towards the city, to the left is the Natural Museum ('Naturhistorisches Museum') with various animals to be seen and to the right is the art-historical museum (Kunsthistorisches Museum) with the Egyptian collection.
